"Humor Touches The Whole Brain — The Whole Person"

by Shirley K. Trout, MEd

Humor (some of which leads to laughter, but not all expressions) stimulates the human brain in many specific and important ways.

Humor in young children helps keep problems in perspective with all the wonderful things also present in a child's life. It helps children find ways to create a world full of HOPES, DREAMS and CURIOSITY.

Humor helps LOCK IN MEMORIES that become a precious part of that child's unique LIFE'S JOURNEY.

Humor maintains those stories in a joyful place in the child's memory, thereby allowing those stories to TEACH LIFE LESSONS throughout that person's life.

Humor TEACHES MEANING by interpreting not just words, but tone of voice, eye expression, body language and context.

Humor creates SOCIAL BONDS and, when used meaningfully by teachers, parents and other adults, can help teach SOCIAL SKILLS.

Humor STIMULATES and impacts virtually EVERY HUMAN SYSTEM. It should be used to teach children to be LIKABLE, INTELLIGENT HUMAN BEINGS!
