Graduate Program Course
This is a 3-hour graduate credit spring term course through Portland State University and is designed to facilitate a collaborative approach in the exploration of humor/laughter theory, application and research. This course will explore the mission, definition and purpose of humor therapy. An extensive bibliography will be available through the AATH repository. Participants in occupationally diverse fields of study will share their ideas on the definition of humor therapy and what constitutes humor therapy applications. Participation in the AATH annual conference will enable participants to learn about current research and practical applications in the field of therapeutic humor.
Humor Academy GRADUATE Course Requirements
- Participation in all pre and post AATH conference sessions
- Full participation in AATH conference
- Completion of Individualized project facilitated by the professor from Portland State University and due by June 1 for spring semester credit.
- Completion of all other Humor Academy requirements as detailed for each class level.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Will the university credit transfer to other schools?
Yes. Portland State University is a fully accredited university. Credits will be earned in the Graduate School of Education Continuing Education Department.
Will I have any other costs for transcripts etc?
Transcripts are accessed through PSU's online system. An official transcript costs $4. Unofficial transcripts may be obtained online at no cost.
What paper work will I need to fill out?
There will be a PSU registration form that participants will fill out on site at the conference.
Do I need a bachelor's degree completed to take the class for credit?
Participants may take the courses for graduate or undergraduate credit. Cost is the same.
What are the requirements to earn the university credit?
Attend pre and post conference sessions, as well as the entire conference. Following the post session there will be an opportunity for participants will share their ideas and possible publication of the results of their individualized humor project.
What is the individualized humor project?
During the post-conference session the instructor will work with participants to develop and design a project that can be used in the workplace or other setting. The goal of the project will be to incorporate the principles and activities of humor.
