Inspiring, uplifting, and contagious. Fits in stockings, fits on the toilet tank. One size fits all, regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, or lack of funny bone. Order one today. Dear AATH,
Ho to the third power.
I never tire of The Carpenters singing holiday songs, but I know some folks get a little ear sore. Use this time of year to infuse healthy holiday humor, no matter what holiday you celebrate (or avoid).
Let us all raise our glasses together and toast to 2012!
Cheers!

FROM THE PREZ | | Chip Lutz, President Happy Holidays, Friends! As I reflect on this past year, I am filled with gratitude! I am thankful for all of the people within this organization who have worked so hard to help us achieve some significant milestones! We are an all volunteer organization and can't do anything without the selfless dedication of those who choose to serve.
In looking towards 2012, I am filled with hope and excitement. 2012 marks our 25th year of making a difference. Each one of you have a part of this. We, as an organization, are the sum of all of our parts. You make the organization what it is. You make the difference. Day in and day out, you make the world a better place by practicing (dare I say living) what AATH is all about. I am hopeful that we will continue to make that difference as an organization and excited to see what this year will bring for you and for us. I am also ready to see all of you at the conference. That is the time for us to reconnect, recalibrate, and re-energize our efforts. Plan on being there! It won't be the same without you.
Keep making a difference and letting your laugh shine! You are AATH!
Warmest regards, Chip

BOOK REVIEW
|
| Thank you, JILL KNOX, for monthly book reviews! (Say it with me: Jill Knox Rocks!)(Jill Knox thems outta the park!)(Jill Knox Knows Knox-Knox Jokes....)
I'm Dreaming of a BLACK CHRISTMAS BY Lewis Black
Lewis Black uses his somewhat cynical sense of humor to poke fun at everything from choosing the ideal gift, family gatherings, the Rockefeller Christmas tree, and my personal favorite, receiving that beautiful family photo card from someone that you simply just can't seem to place anywhere or at any time in your life.
Black reveals the traditions of the Christmas season as seen through the eyes of "a Jew who feels like one of the spectators who stands outside the fence and watches those idiots who have chosen to run with the bulls."
Lewis Black warns the reader at the beginning of the book that it is only two percent religion, or the yuletide equivalent of low-fat milk. He also warns that the book contains profanity. It does.
Although he portrays himself as a curmudgeon, there is sensitivity and poignant moments throughout this book, particularly in the final chapter. Here he describes traveling to the Middle East with the USO Christmas tour, Robin Williams, and Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen.
Although he is anti-war, his respect for the military and Admiral Mullen is heartfelt and sincere. He also doesn't like to give Christmas gifts but this last chapter alone is a gift to the reader and reveals another layer of his persona.
Fans of Lewis Black who have laughed at his rants on The Daily Show and guffawed during his HBO Comedy Specials will not be disappointed in this book.
Lewis Black is a stand-up comedian, actor, playwright, and New York Times bestselling author. He has won a Grammy, an Emmy, and an American Comedy Award. He earned a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama and has also written two other books, Me of Little Faith and Nothing's Sacred. |
| We're just wondering.... | |
Hey, David Jacobson - Did you get a holiday card from the White House this year?(Barbara Walters did.) (I did not.)
For those new to the AATH community, our member David Jacobson is a shining example of therapeutic humor in action.
David, manager of the social work team in Tuscon, AZ, was heavily involved with the aftermath of the shootings of Gabby Giffords and the others in January of this past year. After the initial shock of the first several days, there were many instances patients and families used humor and laughter to cope with the tragedy.
In our everyday lives, and in the deepest of sorrows, therapeutic humor can help. |
