Damaged Care

Damaged Care: The Musical Comedy About Health Care In America highlights current issues of great concern to health professionals as well as health care consumers, including the excesses of managed care and cost containment, the adverse consequences of hospital mergers, the inadequate emphasis on prevention and the success of “superbugs.” It showcases the insecurities, time pressures, and increasing isolation that both health care professionals and consumers experience today.

Damaged Care encourages consumers and healthcare professionals to play leadership roles to improve the state of health care in society today. Written and performed by Dr. Greg LaGana and Dr. Barry Levy, it's now in its tenth year. Drs. LaGana and Levy have presented the show in 26 states to a wide variety of health-related and other organizations and Off Off Broadway in New York. They have been featured on CNN Headline News, ABC Nightline and abcnews.com, in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, American Medical News, and numerous other publications.

Greg LaGana, M.D., and Barry Levy, M.D., both graduated in 1971 from Cornell University Medical College, where they participated in annual class shows (musical comedies). They renewed their collaboration in courses on Writing for Musical Theater at the New School for Social Research in New York. Greg and Barry wrote and first performed Damaged Care for their 25 th medical school reunion in 1996 and now continue to update the material and perform across the United States.

Greg LaGana is board-certified in internal medicine. He co-founded Pegasus Consulting Associates, a strategic management consulting firm, and ARK Technologies, an entrepreneurial think tank exploring the impact of computer and telecommunication technologies on health care. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and two sons.

Barry Levy is board-certified in internal medicine, and preventive/occupational medicine. He is currently a consultant in occupational an environmental health as well as an Adjunct Professor of Public Health at Tufts University School of Medicine, He lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children.
