Heloise is active in many philanthropic causes including Battered Women's Shelters, the USO and The American Heart Association. She was the inaugural recipient of the Mental Health Mission Award given by the National Mental Health Association for outstanding contributions to mental health education and has also been honored by her alma mater Southwest Texas University (now Texas Station University) receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award. A member of the Association for Women in Communications she received their prestigious Headliner Award in 1994.
